As a result of a decision by the AASHTO
Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures, there will be no further updates to the
SI Unit version 2007 AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
Consequently, PENNDOT will begin phasing out the SI unit option for our
Engineering Software.
Beginning in January 2010, new releases of the LRFD Bridge Design software (ABLRFD, BPLRFD, BXLRFD, FBLRFD, PSLRFD, SPLRFD, abd STLRFD) will no longer allow the use of SI units. The current version of the dual unit programs will remain available as the final SI version as long as there is a need.

has been revised to correct a few problems. The new
version is ABLRFD v1.4.0.4. One of the problems can result in
unconservative reinforcement for the footing heel when the Coulomb method is
used to compute lateral earth pressure. Users should run ABLRFD v1.4.0.4
for any structures designed with ABLRFD v1.4.0.3 to verify the heel
reinforcement.

The names of four engineering programs, Metric Bridge Geometry (MBRGEO),
Metric Field Check of Camber (MCAMBR), Metric Comparison of Live Load Moments
and Reactions (MCLLMR), and Metric Grade Profile (MGRPRO), have been changed to
BRGEO, CAMBR, CLLMR and GRPRO respectively. Only the names have been
changed for these programs to work EngAsst. There is no change in program
functionalities or version numbers. Licensees of MBRGEO v1.1, MCAMBR v2.0,
MCLLMR v1.0 and MGRPRO v1.0 can download the free updated versions located on
the Downloads section.

A new Windows Program called Engineering Assistant (EngAsst)
Version 2.0 is now available for users of PENNDOT's engineering programs. With
EngAsst a user can create input, run the associated engineering program, view
the output and browse through the user's manual for most of PENNDOT's
engineering programs in a Windows environment. EngAsst 2.0 is available
under a license agreement for a fee of $300 to private organizations and for a
fee of $100 to governmental agencies. Use the Ordering Form called Request

correct and clarify the sign convention for the analysis results.
