BOX5 ‑ BOX CULVERT DESIGN AND RATING

Purpose:

To design and/or rate single or twin cell reinforced concrete box culverts.  For analysis problems, the moments, shears, axial forces and required steel areas are computed at 10th point in the slabs and walls for the given dimensions.  For design problems, the slab and wall dimensions resulting in a balanced design are determined along with the corresponding forces and reinforcement.  The culvert may have the standard Department fish channel or a nonstandard fish channel, described by the user.  A concrete frame with no bottom slab may be analyzed or designed.  Special live loads with up to twenty four axles may be input.

Input:

Culvert dimensions, slab and wall thicknesses, material properties, optional nonstandard fish channel description and

special live load axle weights and spacing.

Output:

Computed slab and wall thicknesses, moments, shears, axial forces, steel areas for moment and shear at tenth point, moment and shear ratings at critical sections, and maximum foundation pressure.  Designs are given both with and without shear reinforcement.
